Support - Training

As part of its sales mission, the company is committed to developing sophisticated training and education programmes for customers and nursing staff. Uscom has completed a custom training program, supported by education materials in printed and digital form.

There are 5 aspects to the USCOM1A Training Program:

  1. Theory; understanding how and why it works, what affects the accuracy of the cardiac output calculation.
  2. Physical; transducer manipulation and targeting.
  3. Pattern recognition; the Doppler profile characteristics and sounds.
  4. Confirmation of data; Flowtracer & utilisation of TouchPoint.
  5. Product navigation.

The Uscom 5 stage Training Program :

  1. Pre reading:

    Training Program document
    The Basics booklet
    Quick Guide booklet
    Objective:
Gain an introduction and basic understanding of the anatomy, physiology, CW Doppler principles and Doppler profile display.
Gain an introduction to Uscom data entry, data retrieval and basic navigation of the Uscom device

  2. Training Presentation

    The presentation addresses 3 questions:
How does Uscom measure SV / CO?
How to acquire a Doppler profile?
    How to navigate the device?
    Objective:
Gain better understanding of CW Doppler principles, Uscom algorithm, and the relationships to volume calculation.
Transducer positioning for aortic and pulmonary valve flow acquisition, Doppler characteristic recognition, device navigation and training materials.

  3. Targeting Training (Hands on with supervision)

    Objective:
Learn and begin to practice transducer and patient positioning.
Learn, practice and refine acquisition protocol. Transducer manipulation, hand movement and pressure control.
Learn to recognise and confirm the appearance of the Doppler profile as it becomes optimised.
Learn to recognise and confirm the characteristics of the optimised Doppler profile.
Understand that each patient may need slight variation to the standard approach.

  4. Targeting Practice (Unsupervised hands on practice.)

    Objective:
To experience different body physique, clinical situations, levels of tolerance, presentation of profiles etc.
To gather experience, recognise patterns and develop speed in the technique.

  5. Trainer Review

    Objective:
Confirm technical confidence and level of understanding.
To answer questions that may have arisen during practice.
